"Benjamin was a strict disciplinarian. He was a Foreman brickmaker at a Brickworks in Blackwell. He walked there and back every day.
He was in the 'Bantams' during WW1 and was wounded in the leg. Suffered from T.B.
In 1914 he is living at 31 Worcester Street. The house is owned by the executors of George Owen. (The house was right opposite Albutt's fish and chip shop, two doors up from Joe Pinfields. His daughter Daisy lived in the house next door).

The marriage was witnessed by William Chance and Mary Ann’s half sister Annie Byng. Both signed. Mary Ann’s father is given as John Lammas who was her grandfather, as she is the illegitimate daughter of Mary Jane Lammas. Benjamin’s father is given as James Chance while Benjamin is the illegitimate son of Eliza Chance who later married James Harrison
